 Newsletter #3
Minco Historical Society
Minco, OK      July 13, 2005

 1.   GREAT NEWS!   We have received a large contribution for our museum building, and we will now build!   We should be able to build a 40x40 building on our 50x70 lot.  The contribution is from a descendant of Ole and Laura Halverson., a pioneer couple who had a farm northeast of Minco.  We are deeply appreciative.  We can now reach our goals.

We thank all of our members for your support, faith, and aid.

While we are going to build, we are hopeful that we can somehow build a 40x60 rather than 40x40, as it is expected to fill quickly.  There are numerous pledged exhibit artifacts, and in 1992 Minco’s temporary museum for the town’s Centennial celebration was filled.  The temporary museum in 1992 was in what is now the Blossom Time Shops.

Tentative plans are to build the back of the 40x40 building in a manner that will allow expansion to 40x60 when we obtain more funds.  Hopefully, we can obtain additional funds for interior finishing, furniture, and equipment, and for building a 40x60 building on the first construction job.  The building and displays should be ready by the next high school reunion, May 2007.

Contributions for the museum are needed and most welcome, and are tax deductible. For income tax deductions, one needs the Minco Historical Society’s Tax ID (officially called Employer Identification Number or “EIN”) and a receipt from the society Treasurer for the contributed amount.   Checks:  Payable to “Minco Historical Society”.  Address is at bottom of page.

 2.  GOALS OF THE SOCIETY:  To preserve as much as we can about the history of Minco and its residents, including its surrounding rural area.  This includes photographs, biographies, interviews, newspapers, genealogies, artifacts, and in general anything that would be of interest to nostalgic or interested residents and former residents, their descendants, and anyone who wants to learn of Minco’s past.

3.  WEB SITE:  The society’s web site is  http://members.cox.net/mincohistoricalsociety

 4.  MEMBERSHIPS:  Annual individual $15.  Annual business $25.  Lifetime individual $200.  Lifetime business $300. Application form available on web site.
