The theoretical view of Mt. McKinley from the lodge. |
No McKinley. Just clouds. |
|
But late in the evening, Mt. McKinley had a just a nub sticking about the clouds. That little nub of McKinley's peak is at the bottom of the cloud rainbow. (The mountain range at the bottom is just the foothills.) |
And what view of McKinley did we have when we got up the next morning? More clouds. |
Betty went into the stores behind the camera for serious shopping while I took pictures in the direction of downtown Talkeetna. |
More Talkeetna ... there's more down the street around the corner. |
We traveled on to Healy, north of Denali, and stayed at the Nord Haven Motel. See http://www.motelnordhaven.com Heading for our Denali tour the next morning, it did not look promising. |
At our breakfast stop in Healy, we ran across this dog waiting for it's owner to return from the restaurant. |
After breakfast, the clouds cleared off nicely. |
In the Denali Visitor Center, waiting for our green bus. |
Inside Denali Park, first bus stop for viewing.. |
First stop, continued. |
First stop, continued. |
Dahl sheep on the side of the mountain. |
Dahl sheep. |
Our first view of the rarely seen Mt. McKinley. |
Very close to the bus. |
Mt. McKinley. This is very rare due to cloud cover. One guy made eight trips to this area, and saw McKinley only once. |
Pit and scenery stop. |
Same place. |
The wounded Woody is getting around without crutches better now. |
Dahl sheep. |
The gravel road drive (left center) along the side of the mountain is a cause for concern. |

McKinley |
Interesting cloud formation. |
McKinley again. |
But those views of McKinley are with the aid of a telephoto lens. That is McKinley in the center in this picture. |
More general views follow. |

There are two bears in this picture, both on the upper right. |
In this picture, the mother bear is on the patch of snow, and the cub is in the center of the picture. The cub later ran down and slid across the snow. |

From the highway bridge between Healy and Denali Park. On the right is the Alaskan Railway tracks. |

And everyone has to have their picture taken at this spot in Talkeetna.
|
Then we headed back to Anchorage to catch our flight back. |
And that concludes the photo gallery. |
