There were shops and flowers below our room. The tulips were just blooming. |
View from the dock, where we're waiting to board. Betty is on the left side of the dock looking impatient. We took the Kenai Ford National Park 11:30AM tour. For more info, see http://www.alaskaheritagetours.com/seward-information.html |
On the previous day I found the only patch of ice in Seward while at the Ididaride place, and severely sprained my foot. I was able to visit the hospital and get x-rayed, a foot support, and crutches before our 11:30AM departure. |
Nobody we know ... just a view of the harbor. |
Departing Seward on the boat tour. |
The first wildlife encountered ... a curious sea otter. |
Mountain goat. One needs a telephoto lens for Alaska tours, as it's rare that one get real close. Need a telephoto lens. |
An Orca pod. The mist in the center is one spouting. |
An Orca with a "FreeWilly" style fin. |

Black bear in the center of the picture. |
The boat maneuvered closer for a better view. Just his head, ears, and back can be seen.. |
This is how the tour boat looks inside. The rest of the passengers are outside for better viewing. I'm protecting my painful foot. |
We finally reach the tidal glacier. We never got close, so it was difficult to judge its size. I don't recall exactly what the captain announced, but I remembered that by comparison, our boat would look tiny beside it. |
While floating to the glacier, someone spotted a bear on the nearby slope. |
Betty viewing the bear. |
The bear about to complete his trek across a rock slide. |
As we approached the glacier, the captain ordered silence so we could hear the glacier's sounds. |
We could hear loud cracks, roars, slides, and splashes. In fact, it sounded much like a lightning storm. |
This made a long continuous roar. |
